For 34 years, Steve and Lana Gleason made due without a traditional residential water system. The couple, who live in the rural logging community of Jewell, Oregon, pumped water for washing from a nearby river and made 40-mile round trips from their home to haul drinking water from a spring.

High-quality drinking water often alludes residents in these remote areas, where hooking into the municipal water supply can be difficult and cost-prohibitive. With the help of the Water Supply Costs Savings Act signed into law in 2016, nonprofit efforts like Xylem Watermark and Hometown H2O are increasing the use of cost-effective alternatives such as water well systems.

The culturing of mussels and oysters for the company takes place in the Oosterschelde, an almost 100,000 acre (37,000 hectare) tidal wetland that is part of the North Sea. The Oosterschelde is the largest national park in the Netherlands and an important fishing ground for mussels, oysters, flatfish and crabs.

Xylem responds to need for seasonal potable drinking water
The Sierra Conservation Center required extra raw water filtration capacity during their rainy season while reconditioning and repairs of their potable water treatment plant were completed. A series of heavy rains had increased the turbidity of the surface water to 80 NTU, unusable for drinking water and an immediate solution was required.

Xylem selected as a supplier for wastewater treatment pilot facility
The City of Los Angeles has selected Xylem through its sales partner MiscoWATER, to manufacture and install a wastewater treatment system at the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant. The new treatment system will be installed as part of a pilot facility to evaluate three membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems.
