The Smith-Blair 415 Steel Transition Coupling is designed to connect pipes with large differences in outside diameters. This reducing connection coupling is used for joining plain end pipe of different nominal pipe sizes. The 415 coupling allows for limited expansion and contraction while dampening vibration to reduce pipe fatigue. Installation is easy with no special pipe end preparation required, and the coupling has good deflection capabilities, allowing change in piping direction without the need of elbows, bends, or other fittings.

The 415 coupling is constructed with high-quality materials to ensure long-lasting performance. The sleeve is manufactured from ASTM A53, ASTM A513, or Carbon Steel having a minimum yield of 30,000 PSI with Flexi-Coat Fusion Bonded Finish. Followers are made from Ductile Iron ASTM A536 or Steel AISI C1020 Steel. Bolts and nuts are high strength, low alloy steel with heavy semi-finished hexagon nuts, with stainless steel available as an option. The gasket is Nitrile (Buna N) NSF 61 compounded to produce superior storage and performance characteristics while resisting water, acids, alkalies, most aliphatic hydrocarbon fluids, and other chemicals. The temperature range is -20°F to 180°F, and the finish is Flexi-Coat Fusion Bonded Epoxy Finish.

The 415 coupling has a working pressure of up to 150 PSI and is suitable for pipe applications including Steel, Cast Iron, Asbestos Cement, PVC, and Ductile Iron. For other pipe materials, contact Smith-Blair Engineering. The coupling is available in a wide variety of pipe O.D. sizes and sleeve lengths, with the large pipe end available in sizes 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, and 48 inches, and the small pipe end available in sizes 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, and 46 inches. Larger sizes are available upon request.

The Smith-Blair 415 coupling meets applicable AWWA C219 Standards and can be custom made to fit odd O.D.s or other unusual applications. Most sizes will accommodate anchor studs to restrain the joints, and the coupling is provided with or without pipe stops to accommodate customer needs. This versatile coupling solution delivers reliable performance for joining pipes of different diameters across a wide range of municipal and industrial applications.

This product does not restrain pipe movement. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death. Users must read the product installation instructions prior to installing this product.
