Industries & Applications
Xylem offers a range of advanced wastewater and water solutions to help operators around the world achieve their required water effluent while delivering optimal performance, reliable operations and substantial energy savings no matter what industry or application. Working with customers, Xylem listens, learns, and adapts to local environments, ensuring the best possible design, customized to meet their specific needs. Below are some recommended industries and applications.
Harnessing the power that nature uses to cleanse the rivers and streams – air, microbes, gravity, light – the wastewater industry has revolutionized sanitation and brought health to their communities, rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. Through Xylem’s broad portfolio and expertise, customer needs are evaluated and the right solution provided with low life cycle costs. When the water leaves the plant, it is no longer wastewater, but a highly valuable resource.
Municipal Potable Water
Water utilities have to do more with less, and it’s not easy. They must conserve energy, make the most of every drop of water, use staff most efficiently to hold down costs, while meeting stricter requirements and improving quality. Xylem develops innovations to make processes and equipment more energy efficient, more reliable, more water efficient, and easier to operate.
Aquaculture accounts for 50 percent of the fish consumed globally. Reliance on aquaculture is expected to continue to increase, at several times the growth rate of other meat production. This growing reliance on aquaculture presents huge opportunities, but also increases risks for producers. Xylem offers processes vital to aquaculture success including disinfection of circulated water is essential to maintaining fish health, heat exchangers help maintain water temperatures within optimal ranges and a full complement of pumps.
Food & Beverage
With global population continuing to grow, feeding the world sustainably is a worldwide challenge. Water is at the center of this concern, as food production is the largest single consumer of water. Reducing the water footprint of food production is a central goal of the food and beverage industry. Xylem can assist in optimizing and managing every stage of a production facility’s water cycle. Customers utilize the complete water cycle solutions, such as energy efficient Flygt pumps to transport water throughout the facility, along with industry-leading Leopold filtration technologies, Sanitaire biological treatment and Wedeco disinfection and oxidation systems.
Marine environments are harsh. Whether on a merchant ship, naval vessel, or an offshore platform, space is at a premium, with scant room for spares for every process or piece of equipment. Shutting down is not an option, so the equipment selected must be rugged and proven reliable. Xylem’s portfolio of products paired with process engineering expertise provides solutions that are energy efficient, effective and most of all, reliable.
From feedwater, through internal treatment to generate pharmaceutical grade water, to final discharge, water is critical to pharmaceutical manufacturing. Treatments must meet the standards of the relevant pharmacopeias for the intended use of the water, with different pharmaceutical grades requiring different treatments from purified water (PW) to highly purified water (HPW) to the highest purity of water for injection (WFI). With Xylem treatment processes, safe, sustainable water practices can be achieved throughout the manufacture and through final discharge.
Pulp & Paper
Xylem has been collaborating with pulp and paper manufacturers for over two decades, to incorporate the most advanced, energy efficient and easy to operate ozone systems into their processes. Xylem’s Wedeco brand developed the Z-Compact System specifically to address the needs of the pulp and paper industry, combining reliability and energy efficiency with a compact configuration and plug and play systems for quick installation and start up. For wastewater treatment, Sanitaire provides ozone dissolution equipment for suspended biological treatment systems. Leopold’s biofiltration process, combining ozone, breaks down and treats even the most difficult COD.
