Leopold® I.M.S 200 and I.M.S 1000 media retainers are designed to eliminate the need for gravel media support and ensure effective media cleaning in water and wastewater gravity media filtration systems.
Providing a more effective option than gravel, Leopold’s next-generation media retainers pair with Leopold underdrains to provide superior performance and worry-free operation. I.M.S media retainers increase flexibility in filtration media design by replacing up to 14 in (35 cm) of support gravel, allowing additional media depth, increased filter freeboard, or a reduced vertical footprint.

Effective media retention and media cleaning
Paired with Leopold dual parallel lateral underdrains, the I.M.S® 200 media retainer ensures effective backwash performance while replacing up to 14 in (35 cm) of gravel media support.
I.M.S 200 media retainers support media down to 400 microns (0.4 mm), preventing sand and media from obstructing orifices or penetrating into the underdrain. The slots also allow uniform distribution of air and water during backwash, without dead spaces.
The patented baffles on the bottom of the plate are designed to ensure air doesn’t roll to the high end of the cap.
Increased filter freeboard
By replacing the gravel support layer with a low-profile underdrain cap, I.M.S media retainers allow greater media expansion and improved backwash air and water distribution. The resulting deep clean of the media provides longer filter runs.
In new construction, the low-profile media retainers can reduce the vertical footprint.
