Xylem's Smith-Blair 611 Expansion Joint is a slip-type joint that allows for thermal expansion and contraction in pipelines, absorbing changes in pipe length due to concentrated pipe movement in a given area of pipe. Compact in design and customizable to handle many applications, the 611 is available in a variety of end types.

Key Product Features

  • Meets applicable AWWA C221 Standards
  • Compact in design and can be customized to handle many applications
  • Available in a variety of end types: Plain ends beveled for welding, flanged and others
  • Accommodates a large amount of axial pipe movement, relieving stress buildup in the pipeline
  • Hard Chrome-Plated slip pipe helps:
    • Ensure free movement
    • Reduces friction and wear on the packing rings
    • Resists scratching and scoring of the slip pipe surface
  • Optional Limit Rods offer three important functions:
    • Limits travel of slip pipe, preventing it from pulling out of the body when used with two or more expansion joints
    • Is used to indicate the position of the slip pipe within the body to know where it is in the expansion/contraction cycle
  • Generous Packing Provides:
    • Great sealing between the body and the slip pipe
    • Increased life of the packing before replacement is necessary
    • Designed to allow replacement of packing without taking the expansion joint out of service

Xylem's Smith-Blair 611 Expansion Joint allows for thermal expansion or contraction in pipelines, designed for absorbing changes in pipe length due to concentrated pipe movement in a given area of pipe. Compact in design and customizable to handle many applications, it is available in a variety of end configurations.

The 611 is built for reliable, long-service-life performance. The body, body flange, packing gland, and limit flange are all Carbon Steel per ASTM A283C, A53, or AISI C1015-20, finished with Flexi-Coat® fusion-bonded epoxy; the body flange incorporates an integral oval bolt head pocket for one-wrench installation, and the packing gland is removable for future maintenance and packing adjustment.

The Smith-Blair 611 is available as a standard product in nominal pipe sizes from 2" and larger. The 611 is designed for axial pipe movement only and is not intended for angular deflection.

The Smith-Blair 611's Flexi-Coat® fusion-bonded epoxy coating meets the requirements of AWWA C213 and is certified to NSF/ANSI 61. The 611 meets applicable AWWA C221 standards. A wide range of options is available to meet your project requirements, including alternative materials of construction (304SS, 316SS, Monel, etc.), Type 304 or Type 316 Stainless Steel hardware with fluoropolymer-coated nuts to prevent galling, alternative gasket/packing materials (Buna-N, EPDM, etc.), anode connectors, anchor studs, higher working pressure designs, custom joint or expansion lengths, built-in anchor base, custom end configurations, pipe stops, and packing lubrication features such as alemite fittings or lantern rings.

Note: When one or more expansion joints are installed in a straight segment of pipe between anchors, they must have limit rods. Slip-type expansion joints must be installed in an accessible location for future maintenance and packing adjustment.

THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT RESTRAIN PIPE MOVEMENT. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death. Read the product installation instructions prior to installing this product.
