What's inside Jabsco Y-valve? This video shows you how to take apart the valve, what's inside, and reviews the service kit (45488-0000) that's available. If yours has been used and you want to take it apart, don't forget to take protective measures against the biohazards involved with a marine sanitation system.
Jeff: Thanks for watching jabscotech.com, I'm Jeff Lander.
Mike: And I'm Mike Irving.
Jeff: And today we're going to talk about just exactly how a Y-valve works.
Mike: Yeah, I'm going to get behind the camera and Jeff’s going to take apart our 45490 series Y-valve. And it's one of those things where we don't get calls on it too often, but it's always kind of cool to know what goes inside our Y-valve.
Jeff: I've already taken off the screws with our 7/16 socket wrench or 11 millimeter and now I'm just going to pop the top housing off. And inside you'll see a little gate valve. So when I turn the handle left or right, I'm actually moving the gate valve to either open or close one of the ports. Now you'll see the little O-ring on the gate valve, and that actually seals tighter as pressure is being put on the valve.
The other neat little feature is on the discharge ports. They rotate 360°. And if I wanted to, I can actually swap the ports rather easily. So since I have the top housing off, I can just easily remove the elbow. And now what I can do is remove the straight and just swap ports. As you can see it's sealed by the O-ring right here. Just snap it in till it clicks. And the same thing with our other discharge port.
So there you have it. I just popped off the top for you, showed you the little internal gauge valve as well as the O-rings on our rotatable discharge ports.
Mike: Well, we just showed you the inside of our Y-valve. Now, mind you, Jeff was using gloves because that kind of reminds you that if you're going to do a service on an older unit or if you're going to go ahead and take an old one out, put a new one in, you’ve got to be wearing those gloves to keep your hands away from that yucky stuff. There’s also a service kit.
Jeff: Yeah, if you ever wanted to do a service, we do offer one. It's a 45488-0000. And you know, we just wanted to give you a quick little visual. How exactly the Y-valve works and what components are involved. Other than that, that pretty much wraps it up. I'm Jeff Lander.
Mike: And I’m Mike Irving.
Jeff: Thanks for watching jabscotech. We'll see you back soon.
