Replace a Joker Valve on Jabsco Electric Marine Toilets

Jeff: Thanks for watching jabscotech.com. I'm Jeff Lander.

Mike: And I'm Mike Irving.

Jeff: And today, we're going to be showing you how to change the joker valve on either a 37010 series or Quiet Flush series toilet.

Mike: Now on this one you're going to be dealing with human waste, so make sure you're wearing your gloves and when you're all done, decontaminate your tools and your work area.

Jeff: Now this is a fairly simple procedure; all you need is a Phillips head screwdriver, a pan or some rags for any residual waste in the hose line and a 44106-1000 joker valve.

Mike: This is a fairly easy one. It'll probably take you maybe about 5 to 10 minutes to go ahead and swap out that valve.

Jeff: Let's get at it.

Locate the joker valve on the base of the toilet. And then you go ahead and take off the three Phillips head screws, which I've already pre-loosened. So now I'm just going to finish the job taking them off. Now the discharge elbow is off, the Joker valve is exposed and I’m able to get at it. First things first, take that off. Take the new Joker valve out. And again, this can only go in one way. That little triangle shaped structure goes in.

Now that the joker valve has been replaced, the first thing you want to do before reinstalling the discharge elbow is check this inside perimeter to make sure it's clear of any debris or waste. Now that we've done that, it's time to reinstall the discharge elbow, which can only be put on one way. One little tip, when reinstalling these screws is crank them with nominal hand tightness. You don't need to crank them down super hard because if you do crank it down super hard, your risk cracking the plastic here. So go ahead, finish screwing down the screws. And you're good to go.

Mike: Well Jeff, that looks like that was a pretty easy one.

Jeff: Yeah, not too bad, Mike. You know, give yourself about 10 minutes. All you need is Phillips head screwdriver, some rags or a pan for some residual waste in the hose line, and a 44106-1000 joker valve. You know, it's good to replace every year. We recommend as an annual replacement for the joker valve to help guard against backflow.
