Genuine Flygt shaft units are designed and engineered to maintain balanced rotation, which increases motor efficiency and performance. To meet operating specifications, all Flygt shaft units are manufactured with martensitic stainless steel, which includes properties that do not interfere with the magnetic field through the rotor.
Our specially designed shaft units prevent pitting and highly resistant to permanent deformations and corrosion. A low-quality shaft unit, or one that has been poorly repaired, may cause imbalance and increases the risk of vibration, noise, stator or bearing damage, or even seal failure.
At Xylem we, manufacturer Flygt shaft units to ensure every one meets very precise tolerances. The tight tolerances are necessary and facilitate the correct fitting of the impeller, mechanical seals and bearings preventing malfunctions of the overall rotating system. In addition, the accurate manufacturing processes also ensure proper balancing, which minimizes the risk of seal or bearing failures as well as excessive noise and vibration.
All Flygt shaft units are also designed and manufactured with radiuses carefully machined with critical surfaces ground to the necessary smoothness to minimize the risk of stress concentrations, crack formations and fatigue failures. For example, the shaft units for Flygt 2600-and 2800-series dewatering pumps are designed and manufactured without keyways to minimize the formation of cracks that can cause shaft or impeller damage.
