The EF(N) is a double tube/double tubesheet heat exchanger in accordance with MIL-C-15730. This cooler may be furnished to Class 3 (surface ship – seawater cooled), Class 4 (submarine – fresh water cooled) or Class 5 (surface ship – fresh water cooled).

The standard EF(N) is available in 4″ through 12″ diameters, one or two pass tube side arrangement, with 5/8″ outer – 1/2″ inner or 1/2″ outer – 3/8″ inner tubes. It is designed for a maximum pressure of 150 psig both sides and a maximum temperature of 250° F. Special designs for higher pressures and temperatures are available.

The shell is of welded construction. A carbon steel shell is welded to carbon steel inner tubesheets on both ends, which in turn are welded to 90/10 CuNi outer tubesheets. The outer tubes are roller expanded into the inner tubesheets. The inner tubes are roller expanded the full length of the outer tubes and into the outer tubesheets. The void space between the tubesheets on each end of the cooler is fitted with ¼” IPS vent and drain nipples to detect any tube leakage. The bonnets are one piece cast construction.

The EF(N) exchanger is capable of passing the high – impact shock test of MIL-C-901 Grade A, Class I, Type A and the vibration test of MIL-STD-167, Type I.

Materials: Carbon steel or 90/10 CuNi shell. Bronze, 90/10 & 70/30 CuNi bonnets. Admiralty, 90/10 & 70/30 CuNi tubes.
