Xylem's Smith-Blair 452 steel fabricated coupling delivers a proven bolted sleeve design that joins plain end pipe of the same diameters without the need for welding or special pipe fittings. Easy to install with no special pipe end preparation required, this coupling allows for limited expansion and contraction while dampening vibration to reduce pipe fatigue. Steel sizes are built to specific OD's and the coupling has good deflection capabilities, allowing change in piping direction without extra fittings.
Key Product Features
The Smith-Blair 452 bolted sleeve type coupling is designed for joining plain end pipe of the same diameters without the need for welding or special pipe fittings, providing a reliable straight connection solution. The 452 coupling is available for the oilfield and natural gas markets with several sleeve lengths to accommodate various installation requirements.
The 452 coupling is constructed with high-quality materials to ensure durability and reliable performance. The sleeve is manufactured from ASTM A53, ASTM A512, or Carbon Steel having a minimum yield of 30,000 psi. The follower flange is made from high strength, low alloy steel Grade 80, while bolts and nuts are fabricated from high strength, low alloy steel with heavy semi-finished hexagon nuts. Optional materials include Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel ASTM A307 electro-galvanized with di-chromatic seal. The gasket is Nitrile (Buna-N) for oilfield applications, with a bonded gasket available for natural gas applications. The coupling features a red fusion bonded epoxy coating finish, with optional green epoxy (OD only) available for natural gas applications. The temperature range is -20°F to 180°F.
The Smith-Blair 452 coupling has a working pressure rating of 225 PSI and is designed for steel pipe sizes. Sizes range from 1/2" up to 12", with larger sizes available in the E-Series coupling line. For specific questions regarding pipe applications, contact Smith-Blair Engineering.
The 452 coupling offers several performance advantages that make it an excellent choice for joining plain end pipe. It allows for limited expansion and contraction while dampening vibration to reduce pipe fatigue. The coupling is easy to install with no special pipe end preparation required, reducing installation time and labor costs. It has good deflection capabilities, allowing change in piping direction without extra fittings. Steel sizes are built to specific OD's to ensure proper fit and performance in diverse applications.
This product does not restrain pipe movement. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death. Users must read the product installation instructions prior to installing this product.
