Xylem's Smith-Blair 413 Steel Transition Coupling connects pipes of different outside diameters when the maximum O.D. variation does not exceed the listed coupling O.D. range. Installation is easy with no special pipe end preparation required. The coupling allows for limited expansion and contraction and will dampen vibration to reduce pipe fatigue. It can be custom made to fit odd O.D.s or other unusual applications.

Key Product Features

The Smith-Blair 413 Steel Transition Coupling is used to connect pipes of different outside diameters when the maximum O.D. variation does not exceed the listed coupling O.D. range. This coupling is specifically designed for joining plain end pipe of different diameters within the same nominal pipe size. The coupling meets applicable AWWA C219 Standards and allows for limited expansion and contraction while dampening vibration to reduce pipe fatigue. Installation is easy with no special pipe end preparation required, and the coupling is available in a wide variety of pipe O.D. sizes and sleeve lengths. Most sizes will accommodate anchor studs to restrain the joints, and the coupling can be custom made to fit odd O.D.s or other unusual applications. It is provided with or without pipe stops to accommodate customer needs and has good deflection capabilities, allowing change in piping direction without the need of elbows, bends, or other fittings.

The 413 Steel Transition Coupling is constructed with high-quality materials designed for durability and performance. The sleeve is manufactured from ASTM A53, ASTM A513, or Carbon Steel having a minimum yield of 30,000 PSI. Followers are made of Ductile Iron ASTM A536 or Steel AISI C 1020, designed for a high strength to weight ratio with follower thickness determined by coupling size. Bolts and nuts are high strength, low alloy steel with heavy semi-finished hexagon nuts, with stainless steel available as an option. The gasket is Nitrile (Buna N) NSF® 61 compounded to produce superior storage and performance characteristics while resisting water, acids, alkalies, most (aliphatic) hydrocarbon fluids, and other chemicals. The gasket has a temperature range of -20°F to 180°F, and the coupling features a Flexi-Coat® Fusion Bonded Epoxy Finish.

The 413 Steel Transition Coupling has a working pressure of up to 150 PSI and is suitable for a variety of pipe applications including PVC, Steel, Ductile Iron, AC, and others. For other pipe materials, users should contact Smith-Blair Engineering for guidance. The coupling is available in a comprehensive range of sizes 2" and larger.

This product does not restrain pipe movement. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death. Users must read the product installation instructions prior to installing this product.

When ordering, customers should remember to state the exact pipe O.D.'s and specify if pipe stops are required.
