Back to Bangalore in 2020

Xylem Watermark and Cityzens Giving share a common goal - to educate children about the importance of clean water and sanitation.

We are extremely proud of the teamwork and dedication that has made the ‘Water Goals’ project in Bangalore such a success. This project has engaged over 10,000 young people to date by first training 200 Young Leaders in life-saving lessons on water, and then empowering them to deliver football-based education about the importance of clean water and sanitation in their communities.

Together, with help from our local partner Planet Water Foundation, we have also installed clean water filtration towers in four schools. The towers were installed in February 2019 and February 2020 thanks to the hard work and help from: City fans in India and around the world, Club legend Paul Dickov, local community leaders, and Xylem volunteers.

Cityzens Giving 2019/20

Cityzens Giving 2019/20

For the sixth consecutive year, Manchester City asked supporters to make a difference to communities across the globe. £400,000 was once again donated by City Football Group and its partners, to six community football projects run by young people for young people, with fans deciding the split.

We are excited to reveal Xylem's Cape Coast’s Safe Water project tied for the most popular projects and gained 24% of the overall vote.

Cityzens Giving 2018/19

In 2018/19, Manchester City and its partners donated £400,000 to six community football projects run by young leaders in cities around the world, as part of the annual Cityzens Giving campaign.

As a partner of Manchester City, Xylem was proud to support a safe water project in Bangalore. Our Water Goals initiative – the largest recipient of the donation after winning a public voting contest – combines football, safe water education and clean drinking water towers in the heart of the community, to help prevent water-borne illnesses and keep children in school.

The Safe Water project gained more than 450,000 votes from players, partners and football fans around the world and received £92,000 in funding as a result.

The Wild Boars

Helping the Wild Boars Build a Better Future

In 2018, 12 boys and their coach from the Wild Boars Thai junior football team became trapped deep in a cave system for more than two weeks.

A Xylem team joined the Thai-led rescue mission, offering expertise and advice that helped lower water levels, contributing to the successful recovery of the boys and their coach.

Five months later, Xylem and Manchester City Football Club returned to the area. Manchester City coaches trained the young Boar football players, before helping the community tackle local water accessibility challenges by building a clean drinking water tower with the team.

Raining Goals

This campaign celebrated the best City goals scored each month, they just keep coming!

Water Tight Defence

This campaign gave the limelight to the unsung heroes of football: defenders. Because the tackles that stop goals at one end can be as vital as those scored at the other.

Manchester City’s monthly montage of standout defensive performances offered exclusive content for fans, via a theme that links back to Xylem and our goals… to be as efficient when it comes to water as City’s economical back line.
