The Position will oversee the Base of Pyramid (BoP) commercial business globally at Xylem. As a global water technology leader, Xylem  provides solutions across the drinking water, wastewater and agriculture industries.   The Base of Pyramid Business has been created to scale its social impact to help more people gain access to clean water and safe sanitation through a “profit with purpose” approach by shifting from a corporate citizenship model to a sustainable, market-based approach.

1. This position will lead a team to work with customers, partners, government,   non-government organizations (NGOs) and others across global regions to assess the market potential and establish a vision for the Base of Pyramid business. She/he will be responsible for building and executing a viable commercial strategy across several geographies.

2. Create strong operating Base of Pyramid business by laying out short-term and long-term strategy, financial metrics, operational rhythm, developing channels to access new markets and cross-functional team structure.

3. Work with global teams to conceptualize, pilot, and deliver affordable and sustainable products and solutions 

4. Bring new products and solutions to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; preparing return-on-investment analyses; establishing time schedules with engineering and manufacturing.

5. Build supplier network to support a comprehensive portfolio of products & solutions. Responsible for engaging and executing commercial agreements with suppliers.

6. Create product launch plans by developing time-integrated plans with sales, advertising, and production. Establish product pricing by utilizing market intelligence; reviewing production and sales costs; anticipating volume; costing special and customized orders. Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates products in the market.

7. Identify and establish effective channel network to maximize reach, synergy and profitability. 

8. Establish strong operational and execution capabilities by partnering with suppliers, channels and 3rd party companies to drive metrics around supplier quality, working capital, delivery, operational performance, and customer satisfaction. Manage day-to-day operational activities 

9. Works closely with the Legal teams compliance leads to ensure due diligence matters are appropriately managed.

10. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

11. Sales enablement and coaching – communicate the value proposition of the products to the sales team and develop the sales tools that support the selling process of your products.  Develop an effective sales team through mentorship and coaching. 

12. Develop University collaboration to drive innovation for the BoP business; Drive external thought leadership in the BoP space.

Minimum professional and educational background desired (include years of experience):

1) Education: Business, Marketing, Engineering, or other relevant degree from a recognized University, Master Business Administration (MBA) preferred 

2) Work experience of more than 10 years, with preference in leading a Base of Pyramid business development and/or wastewater, drinking water and agriculture experience 

3) Proven experience in building and leading successful P&L businesses from early start-up and incubation, including the development of an effective sales team 

4) Should have a proven operational experience dealing with multiple stakeholders across the social value chain including government, financial institutions, NGOs, sales channel partners and more
