Xylem's Smith-Blair 481 steel pipe end cap is designed to be easy to remove, reinstall, and block, making it perfect for line testing and dependable for pipe-end sealing. The primary application is capping pipe ends. This steel end cap provides a reliable solution that can be easily installed without special pipe end preparation required, ensuring efficient and effective pipe-end sealing in various applications.

The 481 features a sleeve made from ASTM A53, ASTM A513 or Carbon Steel having a minimum yield of 30,000 PSI. The end plate is constructed of mild steel with a two inch I.P. threaded outlet, with other outlet sizes available upon request. Followers are made from Ductile Iron ASTM A536 or AISI C 1020 Steel. Gaskets are Nitrile (Buna N) compounded to produce superior storage and performance characteristics, while resisting water, acids, alkalies, most (aliphatic) hydrocarbon fluids and other chemicals with a temperature range of -20°F to +180°F. Bolts and nuts are high-strength, low alloy steel with heavy, semi-finished hexagon nuts, with stainless steel available as an optional upgrade. The finish is Flexi-Coat® Fusion-Bonded Epoxy Finish.

The 481 steel pipe end cap has a working pressure of 150 psi in standard design, with greater pressure ratings available. It is suitable for use on carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, asbestos cement, PVC, and HDPE pipe applications. The cap is available in sizes 2 through 20 inches, with larger sizes available upon request. Ridged pipe stiffeners are required for PE applications.

This product meets applicable AWWA C219 Standards and can be custom made to fit unusual applications. It is available in a wide variety of pipe O.D. sizes and sleeve lengths to accommodate diverse project requirements. The offset outlet makes it convenient to blow off or drain the pipe line, and the outlet is 2" NPT Standard, though a variety of other sizes are available to fit specific applications. The pressure rating depends on many factors, and customers should check with the factory for more details on specific pressure requirements.

This product does not restrain pipe movement. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death.
