Biofuel

Renewable fuel for heating, cooling & propulsion

Biofuels are a growing market, not only for vehicle propulsion, but for other uses such as heating and cooling. Our solutions are used across agriculture and industrial plants to create biogas from organics using forms of aerobic and anaerobic digestion. 

Wastewater from agriculture and food producers is mostly organic-based and must be treated prior to discharge. Depending on treatment goals this type of wastewater can be converted into renewable energy as biogas and the water can also be recycled for re-use. 

The utilization of substrates offers a high energy potential, whether it is manure, silage, food processing waste or even food leftovers from restaurants or private households. Biogas production transforms these waste streams into energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this process, energy that is not used in the company's own operations can be profitably sold to the public grid. Anaerobic digestion is a natural process based on a simple concept. However, efficient biogas production requires that mostly difficult substrates can be pumped and mixed effectively. 

Xylem has a wide range of Aerobic and Anaerobic digestion solutions that can be scaled for nearly any treatment goal or footprint. There is ancillary equipment that can be added to these systems based on specific goals. These include Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) systems, submersible chopper pumps, various types of covers and filter presses.
