The Role:

The Enterprise Digital Success Centre of Excellence (EDSCoE) seeks to hire a Principal developer with DevOps experience. The role will be dedicated to Xylem’s Cloud Platform and Connectivity services, accelerating and expanding our IIOT technology solutions, enabling all water assets to be digitally connected across the globe.

The Role will take ownership of System availability and performance, monitoring, efficiency, capacity and emergency response for XCloud services, as well as evaluating the work delivered by the software development team that may impact any of the core performance capabilities of the platform. The role will also form a key technical stakeholder and enabler for XCloud service releases.
 

 

 

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Principal developer across XCloud services, working closely with the Software Development team, Product Owners and Product Management to maintain and extend the operation function and performance of XCloud services;
  • Engage with stakeholders across our Xylem Application teams to ensure the performance, reliability, availability and maintainability of XCloud services, driving any changes necessary to optimize the solution;
  • Working in collaboration with the Global Dev Ops team to ensure the XCloud Infrastructure continues to be fit for purpose as a high availability service;
  • Act as first responder (on-call where necessary) in the event of reported service issues and manage the situation through to a resolution;
  • Planning, resourcing and delivering the engineering support strategy for XCloud;
  • Take a leading role in the deployment of XCloud releases;
  • Define and implement deliverables (e.g. Monitoring) that will improve the performance, reliability, availability and maintainability of XCloud services and ensure these metrics are considered across all development activities;
  • Prioritize activities in collaboration with Product Management that will provide measurable improvements to the overall performance of XCloud

 

Duties:

  • An active member of the global XCloud Development team and product level stakeholder;
  • Keep abreast with Service support and Agile/Scrum best practices and new trends;
  • Work with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams across different time-zones;
  • Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.

Minimum Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industrial experience);

 

Experience:

  • A strong Software development background operating in a senior or principal developer role;
  • Previous experience or exposure to a Dev Ops related role;
  • Experience with Java-based microservices and Spring boot (or alternatives)
  • Experience with running and deploying container-based microservices (Docker and Kubernetes, or similar)

 

Skills and abilities:

  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills;
  • Strong analytical skills with a problem-solving mindset;
  • Technical and personal credibility to engage with cross-functional technical teams;
  • A proactive attitude;

 Other:

  • Knowledge of Agile processes, principles and values would be beneficial;
  • Experience of working within development teams using Scrum.

 

Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

Experience:

  • Prior experience in Cloud solutions, IoT or technology in general would be beneficial;
  • Ability to operate as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar software development or service operations role;

 Skills:

  • Proficiency in using Jira® and Confluence®

 Certification and licenses:

  • Certification relating to AWS and/or Dev Ops would be an advantage
