THE ROLE: The Senior Field Technician will be responsible for ensuring all over the line (ECDA) projects and XLI survey tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner working while closely with the Project Manager assigned to the project. This individual will also serve as the technical lead for projects and be responsible for overseeing a group of Field Technicians assigned to them. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Working with specific objectives and instructions, coordinate, organize and direct the field activities of assigned personnel, ensuring project and client requirements are met and all required safety protocols are followed.
- Delegate and oversee work to ensure that daily and project timelines are met. Effectively communicate any issues or concerns regarding meeting timelines with the Project Manager.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to personnel as required focusing on knowledge transfer and ensuring required work practices and procedures are followed.
- Serve as the Technical Lead for the project, assist personnel as needed with troubleshooting and dealing with any technical or equipment difficulties.
- Monitor equipment needs for the project, ensuring all are in good working order, calibrated, etc. Troubleshoot or make minor repairs as required.
- Provide regular project progress reports to the Project Manager, ensuring an effective communication including all pertinent project details.
- Liaise with clients or property owners as required while always maintaining a professional representation and high client-service delivery mindset. Ensuring any concerns are diligently brought forward to the Project Manager.
- Report crew members time daily ensuring a high degree of accuracy, integrity and in a timely manner.
- Effectively mentor and coach field personnel, foster and maintain positive relationships. Provide regular and comprehensive feedback to personnel with a focus on positive reinforcement and continual improvement.
- Organize and optimize survey data collected.
- Deliver field specific training as needed. This includes new hire on-boarding, as well progressive on-the-job training. Review and evaluate the progress of the new hires and provide the Project/Operations Manager with all relevant feedback regarding deficiencies in performance.
- May be required to complete field deliverables independently or manage projects to ensure client commitments are met.
- Follow all H & S requirements, attend meetings, complete forms, etc. Ensure all H & S incidents are reported according to procedure.
- Provide support to other XLI inspection teams as required.
- Additional duties and responsibilities may be required based on organizational needs
QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of relevant experience with a technical degree or diploma (or equivalent)
- NACE CP 2 minimum; AIT & Rectifier training are considered an asset
- 3+ years working with over the line survey equipment for DOC, ACCA, CIPS, ACVG, DCVG
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record with remote location navigation experience, including UTV/Argo utilization
- Strong mechanical aptitude and well-developed trouble-shooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effective problem-solving skills
- A high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Leadership skills and ability to mentor, motivate, and train staff
- A strong team attitude with commitment to client service
- The ability to autonomously manage time and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while client and team expectations are met
DAY IN THE LIFE:
- Plan and perform duties for projects that involve various XLI surveys.
- Complete DOC, ACCA, CIPS, ACVG, DCVG & Watercourse surveys utilizing XLI equipment and /or other equipment related to these data collection methods
- Continuity tests and soil resistivity measurements.
- Conduct various specific test procedures to gather data for evaluation purposes.
- Identify AC and/or DC interference and foreign influence issues.
- Solve and make corrections to systems as approved by supervisors.
In this role, the working environment is completely outdoors, weather extremities, use of PPE, exposures to hazardous material, loud noise & wildlife and the physical demands may include but not limited to up to 50lbs lifting. In addition, this role may require 80% travel and will work shift work with day lengths up to 12hrs.
