When do you need to perform a compass calibration on your RiverSurveyor-S5 or M9 ADCP? When you use GPS any time for your track reference, or when you perform a Loop Method Moving Bed Test, you must have a calibrated compass. When you use bottom tracking only, a compass calibration is not required. However, it is best practice to always perform a compass calibration when you get to a site – if you need to switch between GPS and bottom tracking during your measurement, you can be sure to always have the most accurate track reference if your compass is calibrated properly.
