Leveraging Manchester City’s Manager and Xylem brand ambassador, Pep Guardiola, as a global philanthropist waking up to water challenges around the world and encouraging our audience to take action, the campaign delivered an emotive short film highlighting the severe water issues billions of people face around the world which then culminated in two ‘water challenges’ that anyone can take part in hosted on the Strava platform: Plogging with Pep and Walk for Water.

Xylem + Manchester City presents: Be A Water Hero.
Water. It’s a pretty big deal. And if the UK doesn’t drastically cut down its usage by 2045, the UK Environmental Agency predicts we could face severe drought.
But there is something we can all do to stop that from happening. That’s why Xylem have teamed up with Manchester City. Together we want to show you ways to save water.

The End of Football
By 2045, it’s predicted we will not have enough water to meet our needs. The UK Environment Agency have called this an ‘existential threat.’ But how do you get the world to take notice?
By showing how water complacency can affect the game we love most - football.
Xylem has now put our partnership with Manchester City into action and created the film, ‘The End of Football.’ It tells the emotional story of one girl’s life as a Manchester City fan. And shows that if our complacency around water continues, we’re just one generation away from it touching every aspect of life.
This film was conceived and shot before the global coronavirus pandemic actually did stop football in the UK and globally. But what coronavirus has shown us is how fragile the world, and its favorite sport, really are. Now more than ever, we need to protect our future by taking steps to use water more sustainably. If we don’t, we may find ourselves in this same football situation in the future.
Water Challenges are Closer Than You Think
The powerful message behind our Closer Than You Think campaign needed a suitably epic launch activity. The Changing Room was a spectacular projection, which is delivering our message memorably to City players, fans and the world.
In the iconic Manchester City dressing room, we surprised City stars Sergio Agüero, David Silva and Ilkay Gündogan, surrounding them with a projection mapped display of dystopian visions of the future, educating them that the world’s water challenges are closer than you think…
