Corrosion protection with zinc anodes

Zinc anodes are bolted to Flygt pumps and mixers to improve protection against galvanic corrosion by e.g. sea water. The weight and positions of the anodes are chosen carefully for each Flygt pump and mixer model.

The pump/mixer should have special coating as the main protection. This includes careful sand blasting of the surface followed by good quality epoxy painting. Special coating is a factory option for Flygt pumps and mixers.

The area around the pump or mixer installation should be as free from exposed steel or stainless steel surfaces as possible. Those surfaces increase galvanic corrosion.

A correctly designed and applied protection will cut corrosion damage to a minimum.

The protection must be maintained as follows:

  • Add a new layer of paint if the surface has been damaged.
  • Replace the zinc anodes well before the zinc is consumed by the corrosion.
