BIB FAQ: Benefits of Transfer Valves

For most BIB systems, having appropriate, regularly maintained transfer valves is a must. With the transfer valve installed and two BIB concentrates attached, dispensers stay online longer because when one BIB becomes empty, the valve automatically switches over to the other. This prevents dispenser downtime and allows for empty BIB replacement when it's more convenient for the operator.

To experience optimal operation of the system, proper equipment selection use and regular cleaning are important. First, determine if the system requires standard altitude equipment for use up to 3000 feet above sea level or high-altitude equipment for use at elevations above 3000 feet.

Next select among the two basic port configurations - all straight hose barb or two elbow hose barb. The all-straight configuration is ideal for placing the transfer valve directly between the two BIB concentrates, while the two elbow configuration is better when the transfer valve is installed on a rack and slightly above the two BIBs.

As with the syrup pumps, hoses and other system components, regular cleaning of the transfer valve is key. We recommend regularly running warm water through the transfer valve for 3 to 5 minutes while manually actuating the valve. This will clean away any buildup on the mechanism that could impact the transfer valve’s function.
