The Role: The role supplies multiple functions in the Development Lab including: testing, evaluation of tests, programming, and project management. In addition to Lab functions, this role is also a backup for Test Engineering Review of Factory tested pumps.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Design test setups and measurement needs for electromechanical, and electronic devices.
  • Design test setups for steam, and hot water boilers, hydronic systems and equipment.
  • Operate low pressure and high pressure boilers.
  • Work directly with other engineers on testing approaches and techniques.
  • Review tests and assist test technicians with test setups.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities pertaining to test equipment and results.
  • Participate in activities pertaining to Product Liability investigations
  • Maintain the gauge calibration system.
  • Coordinate and schedule calibration services for in-house calibrations.
  • Coordinate calibration services for gauges that must be sent out for calibration, and ship the gauges to the calibrator.
  • Prepare documentation and participate in Lab certifications and audits.
  • Review and approve test requests.
  • Ensure tests are performed by test standards.
  • Assist with modernizing test facility and equipment.
  • Procurement of new instruments, devices and supplies.
  • Supervise lab personnel when required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Promote safe work practices.
  • Enforce safety rules.
  • Participate in meetings pertaining to product tests.
  • Provide lab leadership as required.
  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with test and measurement equipment.
  • Testing background (but will train if needed).
  • Project planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical background.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Electrical aptitude.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic principals.
  • Programmable Logic Controller programming.
  • Stationary Engineer License.

  • Assemble large piping arrangements using hand tools.
  • Bending, lifting, turning.
  • Lifting of heavy objects within ESH guidelines.
  • Working in elevated ambient and high humidity conditions.

  • Potential electrical, steam, water, pressure and air hazards.
  • Minimum of 40 hours per week, typically 1st shift but occasional requirements for 2nd shift work.
