Dry Dock Drainage

Dock dewatering for ship maintenance and repair

A dry dock is a basin used for the construction, repair and maintenance of ships, boats and other vessels. The dock can be flooded to allow the vessel to float in and then dewatered, allowing the vessel to rest on a support platform where it can be worked on. Flygt pumps provide flexible and reliable liquid handling solutions for dewatering these docks.
When emptying the dry dock, the ships must be eased down to settle on the platform correctly. The shorter the time it takes to empty the dock, the higher the turnaround of vessels. Of course, this need must be balanced against the requirement of a slow and safe seating of the vessel in the dry state.

Understanding your challenges

  • Pumping efficiency important for low operational cost
  • Downtime is expensive due to loss of production
  • Reliability is critical as the pumps must work when called for
  • Corrosion in seawater
