Xylem was tasked with designing a seep collection system to collect water from a low volume seep through the wall of a decommissioned fly ash pond. The sump was located in an active river floodplain that flooded with as little as 1-2 inches of rain, so the customer needed an automatic shutdown when the river covered the sump.

The culturing of mussels and oysters for the company takes place in the Oosterschelde, an almost 100,000 acre (37,000 hectare) tidal wetland that is part of the North Sea. The Oosterschelde is the largest national park in the Netherlands and an important fishing ground for mussels, oysters, flatfish and crabs.

The city needed to discharge sludge at two different rates–one rate for sludge returning to the headworks RAS and another rate for sending material to the sludge box. The system is designed to speed up dewatering biosolids as a replacement to the existing sand drying beds.

The 4220 mixer comes in 1.5-, 2-, 3-, and 4-horsepower models. A four-horsepower mixer can operate at any lower power level and perform with the same high efficiency as a lower power model.

A deep-tunnel pumping system for Columbus, Ohio’s OARS project uses adjustable-speed Flygt pumps to manage extreme head variations and efficiently dewater a 215-foot-deep, high-capacity sewer tunnel after major flow events.

Before deciding on the 4320s, Kennedy Industries along with YCUA operations and maintenance personnel performed an extensive energy study of the aeration mixers.
