The Role: Smith-Blair, a Xylem brand, seeks to hire an intern in their Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability department. This role will help support the EHSSS Manager to ensure a safe working environment in compliance with government regulations and company policies. The position will give the student opportunities to learn and apply Health, Safety &/or Environmental principals within a manufacturing environment. This position will be located at the Texarkana, Arkansas facility.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Lead projects or actions to drive risk reduction throughout business
- Develop working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations
- Special assignments or projects relating to EHS
- Conduct EHS Assessments (PPE, Hazard/Risk for new equipment/process, Safety Walks, 5S)
- Participate in the sites Safety Steering Committee
- Participation in trainings related to Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) topics
- Working closely with site employees outside vendors
- Maintains EHS files and records
- Review and propose updates and/or changes to current safety programs
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Must be currently enrolled as a student in an accredited undergraduate or graduate academic program in an environmental, health, and safety field and have completed 2 years of study
- Experience in laboratory, or manufacturing environments a plus
- Strong attention to detail, quantitative and analytical skills
- Excelled written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with other people or groups
- Detail oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments
- Aptitude to research and solve problems
Physical Demands:

- Light lifting (20-25 lbs.)
- Daily walking both to and from the office and throughout the manufacturing areas is necessary based upon specific daily job demands.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, reach, bend and move about the work environment.

- Office/Mfg. Plant: 50/50
- Office Area: Typical climate controlled office environment requiring the use of standard office equipment.
- Manufacturing Area: Subject to loud noises, moving machinery and equipment, and climate changes. Safety glasses are required. Hearing protection may be required in certain areas.
- Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours. Overtime may be required based upon job demands.
