A maintenance-needy and energy-inefficient lift station needs help.

Challenge: Overseeing the maintenance of the city’s submersible stations as well as rising energy costs are two stiff challenges for Fond du Lac’s wastewater treatment facility.

Xylem Solution: Fond du Lac, under the guidance of Flygt engineers and overseen by city personnel, installed a Concertor® pump system in a duplex pump station located at Wild Life Acres, replacing one of the old pumps (five-horsepower CP3102 pumps each rated for 140 gallons per minute). The first Concertor pump is the lead pump and it is expected to handle all flows in normal operation running 3hp instead of 5hp. 
 
Result: After a two-month trial of the Flygt N-pump, the station was clog-free, leading to less downtime, increased production and lower pump repair costs.

On-going interruptions to pumping operations as a result of “ragging”.

Challenge: The Suffolk County Department of Public Works Stony Brook Pump Station was facing on-going interruptions to pumping operations as a result of “ragging”—a common challenge in wastewater pumping where a build-up of fibrous materials leads to frequent pump blockages.

Xylem Solution: Xylem proposed its new, ground breaking technology—Flygt Concertor, the world’s first wastewater pumping system with integrated intelligence—as a solution to this challenge.

Result: With the new wastewater pumping system, the pump clogging was completely eliminated and it was no longer necessary to check the rotation of the pump, saving time and money and offering new-found peace of mind. 

Sludge handling in the Sooner State calling out for upgrades.

Challenge: Perry elected to build a new sludge thickening/conditioning basin at the plant. A new solution was needed for return and waste accommodation for the new sludge box.

Xylem Solution: Concertor® pumps combine a fully integrated control system with IE4 motor efficiency, N-hydraulics, and intelligent functionalities. The control system automatically adapts to the changing pumping environment, delivering the optimal level of performance at the lowest cost of ownership.

Result: The new pumps went into service and the staff is thrilled that they have experienced no clogging. Perry’s flow rates for this application vary based on the head requirements between the clarifiers and range between 85 and 370 gpm.
