At the Xylem Global Student Innovation Challenge 2022, students aged 13 to 25 are invited to create projects that tackle one of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges: water. This 8-week virtual hackathon will offer access to informative webinars and mentoring by leading water experts to develop projects addressing issues such as water equity and net zero emissions.

Water impacts our lives every day, from meeting our personal needs to influencing the global economy and the well-being of our planet. Factors like climate change, pollution and aging infrastructure threaten global water supplies and water security. At the Xylem Global Student Innovation Challenge, we are asking you to be a part of the solution! Join us in solving water challenges to expand water access and resilience for all.

  • Over 8 weeks, solve one of the following Challenge Statements in teams of up to 5 students
  • Prizes awarded for projects in 2 tracks – secondary (high school) & tertiary (university) tracks
  • Be mentored by & participate in webinars with water industry experts
  • Join the Water MasterClass, a series of engaging video classes, to learn a range of important water topics from water sustainability to design thinking.
  • Students will be in the running for 8 cash prizes from the $20,000 prize pool, including $5,000 grand prizes for the top secondary (high school) and tertiary (university) projects.


This innovation challenge is open to students in secondary (high school or equivalent) and tertiary (university or equivalent) between 13 and 25 years of age.
