Congratulations to the OCWA Jets of the Water Environment Association of Ontario, who took the top honors in Division One of the Maintenance Event at the 28th Annual Operations Challenge competition. The fun-filled, high-energy event took place at WEFTEC 2015 in Chicago. A record-high 44 hardworking teams from the U.S., Canada, and for the first time, Germany participated in the event.
As one of the most engaging events on the exhibition floor, the Maintenance Event is a unique and fast-paced test of the skills of a maintenance/operating team to respond to a severe weather condition resulting in a lift station pumping outage. It is focused on the routine maintenance and operation of a Godwin NC80 pump in preparation for use at a lift station, and transportation and installation at the lift station, including programming for emergency use.
Over the course of nearly three decades, the Operations Challenge has steadily grown from the original 22-team event to this year's 44-team, two-division format. Teams are judged on the best combination of precision, speed, and safety. The winners are determined by a weighted point system. This year's winners in both divisions of the Maintenance Event include:
Division 1
First Place: OCWA Jets WEA of Ontario
Second Place: L.A. Wrecking Crew California WEA
Third Place: Blue Ridge Brawlers Virginia WEA
Division 2
First Place: Volatile Solids Ohio WEA
Second Place: Wasatch All Stars WEA of Utah
Third Place: Wasted Gas WEA of Utah
Congratulations to this year's Maintenance Event Winners. Thanks to everyone who participated and we can't wait to see you next year!
