Clayton County Water Authority (CCWA) is a good example of a utility that doesn’t let a confined geographical footprint stop it from thinking outside the box. As one of Georgia’s smallest counties in terms of land size area (only 143 square miles), its location near the top of a regional watershed means it has little area to gather precipitation into streams and rivers.

Although St. Francis, Minnesota, located in Anoka and Isanti counties, has a population of only 7,218, it has big ideas when it comes to the future of its wastewater treatment system. Those big ideas came to fruition starting in 2015 when the city began building a new treatment facility at its existing wastewater treatment plant, which was built in the 1970s. Although upgraded in 2000, the upgrade did not address existing and future regulations regarding ammonia and phosphorus.

A national beer brewery in Georgia needed to address deterioration and replacement of some of the drain pipes running from their fermentation tanks. For this to be classified as a successful repair and replacement effort, it needed to be achieved while keeping 25,000 barrels of beer a day flowing and simultaneously maximizing plant uptime and profitability.
