US student wins Stockholm Junior Water Prize

Perry Alagappan of Houston, Texas, has been announced as the international winner of this year’s Stockholm Junior Water Prize. His project involved using nanotechnology to develop a renewable water filter for heavy metals. The filter can be reused multiple times, and the heavy metals it collects can be extracted to be reused in electronic products.

With the prize, Alagappan wins $15,000, with another $5000 going to his school. Xylem has been the global sponsor of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize for the past 19 years.
