Understanding vibration: the fundamentals behind reliable pump performance
September 17, 2026 | 2:00 PM EST | Speaker: Darshan Pabari
Vibration is one of the most common yet misunderstood challenges affecting pump reliability and longevity. This session provides an introduction to vibration theory and its practical implications for pump system design. Attendees will explore structural natural frequencies and how adjusting mass and stiffness can shift a system away from problematic resonance conditions, along with the Hydraulic Institute (HI) separation margin guidelines used to keep designs in the safe zone.
The webinar will also examine rotating natural frequencies, including the role of critical speeds, and explain why understanding both structural and rotodynamic behavior is essential to avoiding costly failures in the field. To connect theory with practice, Flygt's Finite Element Analysis (FEA) capabilities will be demonstrated through real-world examples, showcasing how advanced modeling is used to predict natural frequencies, evaluate mode shapes, and diagnose and prevent vibration issues before they impact performance.
