*  Required Field

Xylem's Smith-Blair 471 Pipe-Lock restraint coupling is a fabricated steel restraint coupling that joins and restrains a plain-end ductile iron pipe to plain-end ductile iron pipe or plain-end steel pipe to plain-end steel pipe with no other method of restraining pipe required. The mechanical restraint is an integral part of the follower gland utilizing multiple single tooth wedges with breakaway nut torque per wedge of 45 to 60 ft. lbs.

Key Product Features

  • Joins and restrains a plain-end ductile iron pipe to plain-end ductile iron pipe or plain-end steel pipe to plain-end steel pipe with no other method of restraining pipe required.
  • Mechanical restraint is part of the follower gland utilizing multiple single tooth wedges
  • Breakaway nut torque per wedge is 45 to 60 ft. lbs
  • Longer sleeves available

Xylem's Smith-Blair 471 Pipe-Lock is a fabricated steel restraint coupling that joins and restrains a plain-end ductile iron pipe to plain-end ductile iron pipe or plain-end steel pipe to plain-end steel pipe with no other method of restraining pipe required. The mechanical restraint is an integral part of the follower gland utilizing multiple single tooth wedges. Breakaway nut torque per wedge is 45 to 60 ft. lbs and longer sleeves are available.

The sleeve is constructed from ASTM A283 Gr. C or carbon steel having a minimum yield of 30,000 PSI with Flexi-Coat® Fusion-Bonded Epoxy finish. The restraint features a gland made of 65-45-12 ductile iron (ASTM A536), single tooth wedges of ductile iron heat treated for ductile iron pipe applications, actuating bolts of 60-40-18 ductile iron (ASTM A536), and breakaway nuts of carbon steel. The gland is finished with Flexi-Coat® Fusion-Bonded Epoxy per AWWA C213 while wedges and actuating bolts are E-coated epoxy. The kit includes an SBR Standard Mechanical Joint gasket per ANSI/AWWA C111/A21.11 SBR, Multi-Seal gasket, or MJ transition gasket for Steel/IPS ODs with 30"-48" sizes supplied with Smith-Blair® MJ gasket and all other sizes using standard MJ gaskets. Studs and nuts are high strength, low alloy, per AWWA C111 with optional 304 stainless steel or fluoropolymer-coated nuts.

The 471 is suitable for ductile iron and carbon steel pipe applications. Available in sizes 3-48 inches for ductile iron and 3-12 inches for carbon steel. Working pressure for ductile iron is 350 PSI for 3" through 16" and 250 PSI for 18" through 48". For steel the working pressure is 250 PSI for 3" through 12". The pressure rating for a Pipe-Lock will be the smaller of the two pipes when coupling and restraining together pipes with different pressure ratings.

Assembled joints into each follower gland through 12" shall allow for three degree deflection on 3", five degrees on 4"-12", two degrees 14"-24", 1.5 degrees 18"-24", and one degree on 30"-48".
