From vibration symptoms to engineering solutions

Pump vibration problems cannot be resolved reliably by looking at vibration magnitude alone. Engineers must connect field symptoms with excitation sources, natural frequencies, installation conditions, and the dynamic response of the complete pumping system.
Building on the vibration fundamentals introduced in the previous Flygt in Focus session, this session presents a systematic approach for moving from vibration symptoms to engineering solutions. It explains how to interpret common vibration signatures, distinguish excitation from resonance, and select an appropriate level of dynamic analysis using the framework described in ANSI/HI 9.6.8.
Practical examples will demonstrate how modal analysis, forced-response analysis, field vibration measurements, and impact testing can work together to identify root causes and evaluate possible modifications. The session concludes with a structured diagnose, assess, modify, and validate workflow for confirming that the selected solution delivers reliable pump operation.
