Chris Riley

Technical Services Director, Wastewater Ion Exchange, Xylem

Chris Riley is the Technical Services Director for Xylem’s Wastewater Ion Exchange business, where he leads technical support for wastewater ion exchange customers and oversees key operational areas including media regeneration and quality programs. In this role, Chris supports the performance and reliability of wastewater ion exchange solutions, including the Water One® WX technology, helping customers address complex wastewater treatment and recovery challenges.

With more than 30 years at Xylem, Chris brings deep, hands-on expertise in industrial wastewater treatment and process optimization. His work has focused on the application of ion exchange resin, adsorptive media, and membrane-based technologies to improve treatment outcomes, reduce operational risk, and enable more efficient recovery of valuable resources from wastewater streams.

Prior to joining Xylem, Chris held environmental engineering roles in the electroplating and environmental consulting industries, where he supported wastewater treatment operations, environmental auditing, and process waste minimization efforts. He has authored numerous technical articles on wastewater treatment and recovery, with a particular emphasis on ion exchange and advanced separation solutions.

Chris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, a Master’s degree in Civil (Environmental) Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and is a registered Professional Engineer.
