Xylem's Smith-Blair Pipe Stiffeners are designed to provide pipe support when installing couplings and other products requiring compression set on pipe surfaces. These stiffeners feature easy identification through color coding to identify which PE SDR the stiffener is made for. The beveled end allows for an easier start, and the flanged or weld bead design helps prevent over insertion.
Key Product Features
Smith-Blair Stiffeners for Polyethylene and IPS PVC Pipe are designed to provide pipe support when installing couplings and other products requiring compression set on pipe surfaces. The stiffener is required to fit snugly into the PE pipe to ensure proper support.
Each Stiffener is constructed from carbon steel and features a fusion bonded epoxy finish, unless otherwise noted. The expoxy is for SDR color identification, not for corrosion protection. Each SDR rating is assigned a specific color code: SDR 17 is Purple Epoxy, SDR 13.5 is White Epoxy, SDR 11.5 is Red Epoxy, SDR 11 is Black Epoxy, SDR 10 is Gray Epoxy, SDR 9.3 is Blue Epoxy, SDR 9 is Yellow Epoxy, and SDR 7 is Pink Paint. The catalog number corresponds to the O.D. and effective length of the stiffener.
The Maxi-Grip Stiffeners are manufactured according to ASTM D-2513 standards for polyethylene pipe and ASTM D-1785 standards for IPS PVC pipe. They are suitable for all types of pipe and all nominal pipe sizes. The stiffeners are available in a wide range of sizes from 1 1/4" to 12" nominal pipe sizes, accommodating various SDR ratings from SDR 6 through SDR 26 for polyethylene applications, and Schedule 40, 80, and 120 for IPS PVC pipe. Other sizes are available on request, and expanded stiffeners with PE pup are available for larger sizes (6" nominal and up). Smith-Blair, Inc. products are marked in accordance with D.O.T. Regulation 192, Paragraph 192.63 (A) (2).
