Xylem's Smith-Blair 525 compression coupling is a ductile or malleable iron coupling with threaded ends that seal to the pipe when turned. Installation is easy with the stab fit design and wrench flats on the nuts and sleeve help with holding the coupling during tightening. The coupling features a galvanized finish for additional corrosion resistance and may be used in most water, wastewater and industrial applications. The compression coupling may also be used in conjuction with Smith-Blair adapter gaskets to join copper pipe.

Key Product Features

  • Joins plain end pipe of the same diameter.
  • Stab fit for easier installation
  • Galvanized finish for additional corrosion resistance
  • Ductile or malleable iron metal parts for strength and corrosion resistance
  • May be used in most water, wastewater and industrial applications
  • Wrench flats on the nuts and sleeve help with holding the coupling during tightening
  • The retainer cup holds the gasket in place and concentrates gasket compression where it is needed most
  • The compression coupling may be used in conjunction with Smith-Blair adapter gaskets to join Copper pipe
  • Protected gasket extends the life of the gasket and provides electrical continuity between the pipe and the coupling
  • Deflection of 2º per end allows for pipe movement and installation on pipe that is not perfectly aligned

The Smith-Blair 525 compression coupling is a ductile or malleable iron coupling with threaded ends that seal to the pipe when turned. This coupling is designed for joining plain end pipe of the same diameter, providing a reliable connection solution without the need for welding or special pipe fittings. The stab fit design allows for easier installation, while the wrench flats on the nuts and sleeve help with holding the coupling during tightening. Deflection of 2º per end allows for pipe movement and installation on pipe that is not perfectly aligned.

The 525 compression coupling features a ductile iron or malleable iron sleeve and compression nut, providing excellent strength and corrosion resistance. The gasket is constructed of nitrile (Buna N), compounded to resist oil, acids, alkalies, most (aliphatic) hydrocarbon fluids, water and many chemicals, with a temperature range of -20°F to 180°F. The retainer cup holds the gasket in place and concentrates gasket compression where it is needed most, while the protected gasket extends the life of the gasket and provides electrical continuity between the pipe and the coupling. All metal components feature a galvanized finish for additional corrosion resistance. Note that this product is not recommended for natural gas service.

The Smith-Blair 525 compression coupling is rated for working pressures up to 150 PSI and may be used in most water, wastewater and industrial applications. The coupling is designed for use with PVC, copper (with adapter gasket), and steel pipe. Available sizes range from ½ inch through 2 inches in nominal pipe size.

This product does not restrain pipe movement. Proper anchoring is required to prevent pipe pullout. Failure to anchor or improper anchoring can result in dangerous pipe content escape, property damage, serious injury, or death. Users must read the product installation instructions prior to installing this product.
